7 Simple Steps or… Just Call Me ;^)

When you click the affiliate link below it will take you to GoDaddy.com where you’ll purchase your Domain Name and Deluxe Hosting Plan.

I’ve kept the pages here clear of ads and anything that might be a distraction. But over at GoDaddy the opposite is true. It’s easy to lose your way and even I get confused over there sometimes. The main thing to remember is this – when you get to the checkout, you only need a minimum of the 12 month Deluxe Hosting Plan and a domain to host it on. Anything more than that is up to you, but if you’re looking for the bare minimum, that’s all you need.

For most folks, the process will go something like this:

  1. The 1st page you’ll see at GoDaddy already has been set up for the right Hosting plan, for the minimum required 12 months. All you have to do is click the Add To Cart button.
  2. On the next screen you’ll enter the domain name you want in the domain search box (the green box) to the right. Make sure it’s set for .com or .net or whatever you really want. The default is .info, and I doubt you want that.
  3. If the domain name you want is available click Add and Proceed to Checkout. Several buttons say this. Use the top one.
    • If the domain name you wanted is not available and none of the alternatives work for you, it’s best to use your browser’s Back button and enter another name on the page before. Just repeat steps 2 & 3 until you have the name you want.
    • Your domain name is important! Don’t be embarrassed to spend a bit of time on it but remember that GoDaddy will suspend the transaction if it seems you’re taking too long. If that happens, come back to this page and start over, or I may not get the credit, and you may not get my free setup.
    • Try to have a short list of possible domain names handy before you click the link, just in case.
  4. On the checkout screen you should see your Deluxe Hosting Plan and your domain name registration. The amount should be around $83. It’s typical for GoDaddy to try to upsell you on the length, so check to make sure you’re only selecting the amount you want. To be sure, it gets cheaper per month as the length goes up, so if you are positive you’ll be using this site years from now, it might be a good idea to do some math. It doesn’t matter to me – I earn the same amount regardless. When you’re sure about the checkout, scroll down and click Continue.
  5. The next page is just full of things you don’t really need right now. Scroll down and if you want one select it. If you want just the minimum, scroll down and click Continue.
  6. From here on it’s mainly verifying your customer information, setting up your GoDaddy account (as opposed to your hosting account or your Wordpress account) and continuing to the final checkout.
  7. Once you’ve completed your transaction and placed your order, GoDaddy will send you an email confirming your account setup and order. You’ll need to forward that to me so I can get started.

One last thing – I understand how frustrating commercial sites on the web can be. If you get over there and it’s just too much to handle alone, don’t worry about it. Come back here and click the Contact Jon button up above. Tell me you need my help at GoDaddy. I’ll set up a time we can get together on the phone and I can talk you through it. If not the phone, then we’ll use instant messaging. Don’t forget that I’m here to help you.

Thanks, and I look forward to helping you get started with your new blog!
